National Payroll Week PDF Print E-mail

The American Payroll Association founded NATIONAL PAYROLL WEEK in 1996. NATIONAL PAYROLL WEEK coincides with the celebration of Labor Day. The special week celebrates many things important to each of us.

National Payroll Week — September 6-10, 2010

National Payroll Week celebrates the hard work by America's 156 million wage earners and the payroll professionals who pay them. Together, through the payroll withholding system, they contribute, collect, report and deposit approximately $1.8 trillion, or 65.7%, of the annual revenue of the U.S. Treasury.

It is a national campaign to help America's workers understand more about their paychecks, the payroll withholding system, and other payroll-driven benefits. Visit the official National Payroll Week website.

What is the APA?

We are a non-profit organization created to support all payroll professionals in the North, West, and Northwest area of the metropolitan Phoenix area. The West Valley Chapter will provide a venue to obtain payroll knowledge, make available networking opportunities, and energize your careers. With ever changing IRS, Federal and State requirements and frequent technology advances having a network of professional individuals to share and exchange knowledge and strategies with is most useful.

Our membership includes payroll professionals from a variety of industries. Monthly meetings will feature informative guest speakers, community outreach activities (especially during National Payroll Week), and payroll educational programs. This is your opportunity to be part of a local group to help you grow as a payroll professional and a member of National APA.

Want to take a leadership role in the National APA? Get involved with your local chapter. Who knows? Your hard work and dedication to this chapter could ultimately lead to national recognition as you become more involved in the APA at the national level.

For the 20th consecutive year, the Internal Revenue Service is hosting six Nationwide Tax Forums from June through September. This three-day program provides the latest IRS information to the tax practitioner community.

This year, the Small Business/Self-Employed business operating unit is sponsoring three focus group discussions, concentrating on topics that affect small business and self employed taxpayers. A focus group is a round table discussion with peers and led by a moderator. We need your candid input and feedback to help improve IRS practices, policies and procedures essential to both this taxpayer group and the IRS.  The focus groups are during days and times that will not interfere with presentations being presented only once. SB/SE Focus group topics include:

·         Federal Tax Liens, the General Public and Credit Report Considerations
SB/SE Collection would like to know what practitioners think about how the Notice of Federal Tax Lien or having a tax liability affects their clients, their credit report, credit rating, etc., and the impact it has on future compliance.

·         Allowable Living Expense Effectiveness and Impact
The standards for the ALE were originally created on the premise that tax debtors must be allowed a fair amount of basic necessary living expenses while repaying their tax debt. The standards were changed in 2007 to help eliminate the need for substantiation of basic living expenses in many situations. SB/SE Collection would like to know how those changes are affecting practitioners as well as taxpayers.

·         Improving the Field Audit Process for Taxpayers
SB/SE Examination is committed to improving service to taxpayers and is interested in learning about practitioners’ experience with the face-to-face audit
process. SB/SE Exam is developing a new service experience in the audit process. They would like to get feedback from tax practitioners on how to improve the new service experience in the audit process.

·         JUST ADDED! Health Care, HIRE Act Tax Credits for the Small Business Community
Throughout the past year, the IRS has spread the word about new tax credits for small employers available through the Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590) and the HIRE Act (H.R. 2847). Now, the IRS wants to hear what small employers and practitioners know about these tax credits and identify effective methods of alerting this community when new tax credits become available. Understanding the awareness level and reaction to health care and HIRE Act tax credits will help IRS improve future outreach campaigns so qualified small employers can benefit when new tax credits become available.
Please consider participating in a focus group. If interested, please contact George Lopez, Stakeholder Liaison at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Beat the deadline and save $129 by registering early for the upcoming IRS Nationwide Tax Forums. Learn about the latest changes in federal taxes, earn CPE credits and pick up tips for your business while networking with professionals from across the country. TEN SECRETS OF SUCCESS

1 How you think is everything: Always be positive. Be enthusiastic. Think success.

2 Decide upon your true dreams and goals: Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them.

3 Take action: Goals are nothing without action. Don’t be afraid to get started now. Just do it.

4 Never stop learning: Go back to school or read books. Get training (or re-training) and acquire new skills.

5 Be persistent and work hard: Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up.

6 Learn to analyze details: Get all the facts, all the input. Learn from your mistakes.

7 Focus your time and money: Don’t let other people or things distract you.

8 Don’t be afraid to innovate; be different:  Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity.

9 Deal and communicate with people effectively: Learn to understand and motivate others.

10 Be honest and dependable; take responsibility: Otherwise, numbers 1-9 won’t matter.
